Eczema and Heat

For babies and also adults who have eczema it's known that they can't bare heat very well. But this is only the case when is warm in house.

In the summer almost all people with eczema notice improvement.

So in winter it's important that the temperature in the room isn't higher then 22ÂșC.

If you can, get an air humidifier

Eczema and Infection

Eczema can be easily infected, specially on baby's skin. Babies can control them, so non-stop scratching just opens the way for infection.

The main things to prevent and manage infected eczema:

1) Cut your baby's nails every two days
2) Wash his/her hands regulary
3) Don't kiss baby on neck, face, hands
4) Don't let the baby to sweat a lot

if skin got infected

5) Do the test and find out whether there is fungal, virus or bacterial infection
6) Consult you pediatrician about cream that you have to use antibacterial, antifungal or antivirus

*My advice is that you never use any medication cream before you do the test

Care for atopic dermatitis - Shea Butter

Care for atopic dermatitis is the biggest challenge. Cosmetic products will certainly do good but when it comes to baby skin you will probably want to try some natural products.
I've tried raw unrefined Shea Butter and I can tell you that you will love it. It's the best natural product for dry skin that can be used for babies and adults. Shea Butter contains vitamins such as A, E, K, F. Vitamin F consists of linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic acids. These essential fatty acids are the most important for skin of people who have atopic dermatitis.

How I did it - solution for eczema

Well, I knew that problem that causes eczema (atopic dermatitis) is coming from inside out...

We did the patch testing for skin allergies on my baby's arms when he was 8 months old. It was painless and without blood. We got the results in 15-30 minutes.

My baby is allergic to food that I was eating (because I am breastfeeding him) and that he ate.

This included milk and dairy products, egg white, apple, peach, apricot, tomato, peanut, walnut, hazelnut and almond.

As soon as we found out, we started our diet. Of course we had to use antibiotic cream for 7 days and mixture of panthenol and only steroid cream  for 5 days because his skin was really damaged. But we have found what was causing eczema so there were no more itching and scratching. His skin become gentle and soft just like it should be.

So our solution is diet. But it is really important to emphasize that for example even if my son is allergic only to egg white we don't use eggs at all. Also a lot of industrial products if not 90%  of them contains traces of nuts, eggs, milk etc. So when you have to avoid any kind of food don't eat this products because you can never be sure is there some or any allergens in it. This is particularly important for persons who have strong allergies or who have experienced anaphylaxis. Persons who are allergic to ingredients such as gluten, yeast, flower etc. have to be even more cautious.

My baby's eczema - overview

Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is in the most cases genetic skin condition. My husband had it and now my baby boy has it or should I say had it.
First sign of eczema I've noticed when my son was just 3 months old. Skin on the inside of elbow was red and sometimes wet sometimes dry. After that skin became red and dry on knees, the ties and in 2 months 90% of his body covered with eczema. Anyone who knows anything about eczema knows that itch is constant and really annoying. I believe that adults with this skin condition can hardly bare the itch but it hurt me so much when I think in what agony my baby was.
The itch is the worst enemy - because of it my baby scratch his skin and skin become infected with bacteria.
Using moisturizing creams certainly helps but there is no cream that could cure eczema. When skin is infected you have to use antibiotic cream and when skin is so inflamed  you have to use cream that contains hormones, steroids. These creams must not be used more that 5 times in month because they can damage skin of adult person. Can you imagine what it will do the sensitive skin like baby's? And the worst thing is that after using such steroid creams eczema will vanish BUT it will appear again in 3-5 days. Treating eczema is hard ...

Eczema can appear also due to allergies. Body can react on food, chemicals, inhalers etc.
I've read some articles on line and it's said that eczema is also psychosomatic but it's really hard for me to believe that babies can develop any kind of illness that is psychosomatic. But, I do believe that brain is in charge for everything that is going on in our life. I've always believed that I will find the way to cure my baby's eczema - and I did it.
